WORLDWIDE PUNS
THE PUN COMPETITION PHENOMENON
Caveat NYC Pun Off - Pun Intended III
The NYC Pun Off is back — December 21st, 7pm @Caveat - and it couldn’t be more perfectly timed.
Your family is in town. You need something to do that isn’t another awkward dinner or a jukebox musical. This is it.
Now in its third NYC installment, the Pun Off started in a living room in Oakland, grew into a beloved Bay Area comedy staple over eleven years, and brought its act to Caveat this year — and we believe we’ve found our people.
This is a community event for friends of wordplay, barely disguised as a pun tourney. Brilliant, sharp-witted punslingers compete in elimination rounds for a crowd that came specifically to roll their eyes and groan together in one of the warmest, friendliest, nerdiest comedy rooms in the city.
Come see Pun Off Allstars, special guests, and the return of the show that has spent a decade gathering as a safe space for wordplay!
Hosted by friendly doppelgangers Jonah Spear (2023 O. Henry Pun-Off World Champion) and Brady Gill (The Reunion Camp Director) — and featuring, among other stars, a People’s Champion selected from the audience — this breathless, shameless celebration always packs a punch.
Bring whoever needs a great night out. The puns are always intended.
Sketchfest 2027 Announcement

Eleven years running. This whole show started in a living room in Oakland, grew organically into a beloved Bay Area comedy staple, and expanded to New York City this year. Now it’s a community event for friends of wordplay, barely disguised as a pun tourney.

"The BAPO is the friendliest, cleverest comedy show I've been to. Actually, "comedy show" is underselling it; it's comedy + performance of skill, like watching people solve Rubik's Cubes. It's funnier than that, though. Usually."

“This testimonial is going to sound really ‘cheesy,’ but I am being sincere when I say how ‘grate’ful I am that the Bay Area Pun Off is a thing. It brings me an un’brie’lievable amount of joy to make a large crowd laugh, and I’ve ‘swiss’ed that life-affirming sound over the past couple years. Also thankful that the fellow performers always cheer one another on, so none of us have to im‘prov-olone’!
