WHAT TO EXPECT

WHEN YOU’RE PUNNING

(OR JUST WATCHING OTHER PEOPLE PUNNING)

A woman in a yellow dress holds a microphone on stage in front of a seated audience, with some people standing on a balcony above in a dimly lit venue.

THE ARC OF

THE EVENING

  • Each evening is opened by Prepared Puntificators, sharing an original piece on a topic of their choosing. This is a non-judged portion of the evening meant to give punsters a warm and welcoming audience and to give the audience a welcome warmup. Then, it’s on to the competition.

  • Punslingers will battle fellow punsters in rounds of freestyle punning on a given category. Last slinger standing gets an original, hand-made trophy in addition to bragging rights, if you can call 'em that...

Round Robin in one category with 8 pre-registered Punslingers (3 spots are reserved for first-time slingers!). If there's room in the line-up, the judges will call from a queue of “pinch hitters” to bring the total to 8. This group will be reduced to 6 then split into two groups of 3.

  • SEMI-FINALS:

Two groups of 3, each with their own category, will be further reduced to get our finalists.

    FINAL FINALS:

The final category is decided by the audience in a tip battle at the bar. The finalists battle it out until we have our winner!

*Time limits may be imposed based on the run-time of the show.
